The Abingdon High School GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) was formed so that ALL students have a safe place to be. It has become increasingly apparent that students are being bullied and harassed for a variety of reasons including their sexual orientation, weight, height, race, economic status, and anything else for being different. These things are causing kids to miss school, suffer from depression, cause severe anxiety, and cause them to commit or attempt suicide. If this alliance saves ONE life, it will be worth it. We want to be a club that supports students and takes an active role in trying to change our school for the better by trying to stop the hate. Just because you attend this club does not automatically mean you are gay, hence it is a gay-STRAIGHT alliance. This club is for anyone who wants to stand up for what is right. Whether or not being gay in your opinion is right/wrong, a choice/you're born with it, etc.; we are just trying to get people to not go out of their way to HATE. Everyone is different and you don't have to agree, you just need to accept that people are different and that's OKAY!!!
